2. Website access and hosting with Hetzner

The website is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestrasse 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. Technical access and error logs are generated when the website is accessed. Hetzner processes these logs to operate the hosting service, troubleshoot errors and maintain security. They may include date and time, requested address and method, status code, data volume, referrer, and browser and operating system details. Hetzner states that IP addresses in its web hosting logs are stored in anonymised form.

For Hetzner web hosting, the default retention period for access and error logs is seven days; Hetzner states that this period can be changed in the customer account. According to Hetzner, web hosting data is processed within the EU. I do not use these technical logs to create visitor profiles or for advertising analytics, and I do not export them separately. The legal basis for the technical delivery and security of the website is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR (the legitimate interest in operating a secure and reliable website). See Hetzner’s information about data protection and logs and its Data Processing Agreement.

3. Contact by telephone or email

If you call or email me, I process the information you provide to respond to your request and, where applicable, to take steps before entering into or performing a contract. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for pre-contractual or contractual communications and otherwise Article 6(1)(f) GDPR (handling and answering enquiries).

If you contact me by email, your sender address, message content, any attachments and technical email metadata are processed through Google Workspace so that the message can be received, stored, sent and answered. Google Workspace is my email service provider and may act as a processor. Google Workspace is not used to deliver this website or when you simply browse it; it is relevant only to email communications. The contractual and privacy terms applicable to my Google account, including any data-processing and international-transfer terms, apply.

Enquiries that do not result in a contract are generally deleted six months after the exchange has concluded. Data may be retained longer where necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims, or where statutory retention duties apply. Business and tax records may be subject to statutory retention periods.

Please avoid sending detailed health information or other highly confidential information by unencrypted email. If you choose to send such information, it will be processed only where necessary to handle your enquiry and legally permitted.

4. Cookies, analytics and external content

To the best of my current knowledge, this website itself does not use cookies, analytics or tracking services and does not embed external fonts or other external content. The blog is linked externally only. When you follow that link, the provider’s privacy policy applies. Technical access logs are generated by the hosting provider independently of cookies.

5. Recipients and transfers outside the EEA

Personal data is disclosed only where necessary to operate the website or handle your enquiry, where you have consented, or where disclosure is required by law. Hetzner Online GmbH processes technical access data for web hosting. Hetzner’s processing on my behalf will be governed by a Data Processing Agreement under Article 28 GDPR, to be concluded before hosting begins. Google Workspace is used for email; its processing is governed by the contractual and privacy terms applicable to my account. Google may also process data outside the European Economic Area; the applicable safeguards and contractual terms for such processing apply. Hetzner states that it processes and stores data for its web hosting services within the EU.

6. Your rights

Subject to applicable legal requirements, you have the right to request access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future.

You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The relevant authority in Hesse is:

The Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information
Postfach 3163, 65021 Wiesbaden, Germany

7. Data protection officer

No data protection officer has been appointed. You can contact me using the details above.

8. Updates

This notice will be updated if the website or its data processing changes.
